Russel Arnold
Russ Arnold is Assistant Professor of Religious Studies and a member of
the steering committees of DePauw's interdisciplinary programs in
Conflict Studies and Jewish Studies. Russ joined DePauw in 2006 after
receiving his PhD in Hebrew Bible and Early Judaism from UCLA. He
teaches courses in biblical studies (Hebrew Bible, New Testament, Ethics
of Biblical Interpretation), Jewish studies (Judaism), early Judaism
and early Christianity (Jewish and Christian Origins, Life of Jesus) and
comparative religion (Intro to Religions, Jerusalem: The Holy City). He
is particularly interested in the ways social, cultural, and religious
identities are shaped by, and simultaneously shape people's
understanding of sacred texts or traditions. Russ's research focuses on
ritual practices and ritual texts in the Bible, Dead Sea Scrolls, and
early Judaism. He is currently working on book project on the history of
interpretation of the biblical accounts of Isaac, and their connections
to the ritual life cycle in Judaism.
